  Muffin Battles

For the last few days I’ve been playing World of warcraft online with a friend and it’s a very fun game. It’s much better when playing with another person and using a voice chat program which we’ve been doing.

Anyways, I’m going to go play for a bit more but I wrote this short story called Muffin Battles for a college writing contest and it didn’t win but they published the story in a book called Bravura. You can read the short story online at their website. Here’s a link to it.

I can't believe that you posted that.... Anyways, I have a complaint about your profile. You don't "act" as a game developer, you practice game development or you do game development. When you say you "act" it sound like you're a wanna be, which I know thats not the case.

A better way to phrase the whole thing is:
I live in San Diego working as a programmer at Sponsorhouse and work as a game developer on my free time.

Or do game development on my freetime.

Yeah I know Im stupid it was just driving me crazy when I read that. Sorry.

While personally not a huge fan of World of Warcraft, I think for me it suffered what most MMO games have. Lack of decent group mates made the experience rather unpleasant to say the least. While I may have held off too long making the switch from EverQuest to World of Warcraft, as I had lost touch with many great players and fellow guild mates who had made the move more than likely much earlier. I was left to fend off the hoards of pure rejects when trying to build a group that would look to accomplish more than just one task and ‘poof’ on me.

I did try to enter a guild while playing to try to get a chance at having more players on during my odd play hours for someone on the Pacific Coast. Normally, playing from 2:00am - 9:00am, if I could grit my teeth long enough at the agony of so much time alone in the game world. I too am one who finds these games to be so much more fun when you have got guild mates – friend to play with on a semi to regular basis. I played for a good 4 months and it was more of a chore to get a good solid group in my experience than it was to just log in to EverQuest II or heck even a few times, I logged in to EverQuest just to check on the status of things.

VOIP (Voice Over IP) should become a standard in the new generation of games, while I know all games cannot do like Dungeons & Dragons Online did, and put in the GameSpy voice servers, since this would put a huge burden on their network. In Dungeons & Dragons Online, the voice chat seems so natural and the lack on the constant typing in ‘down-times’ is very welcoming. In addition, those without mic’s can also listen in on the chat even though they cannot talk back, except through the moving fingers of typing. This really was a great move in Turbine’s part to get the service in to their game as a feature ‘Out of the Box’, and one that made the game much more enjoyable for me as a player. Now if they could have just gotten a clue about ‘amount of content’ needed for the game at is release, I think we may have had a very decent game instead of an ‘ok’ game.

I am glad that you had fun in the game, as it is good and has many great moments that are great to be a around or participating in. It will be interesting to follow this game and see how much Blizzard is willing to invest in to it as their coffers keep filling. I should write about some of my more memorable experience and what turns me on and off in these games.

Just moved to a new server and getting the blog setup again. Once I figure out how to get my blogroll turned on in this new and exciting theme, your site will be back up. Thanks for the linky btw.
